| Description: | Age Range: 8-14 (approximately) Educator Jenny Eather created this website that provides free, interactive, step-by-step "Text Organizers" to help students write in the following styles: *Information Report - Provides info, states the facts *Narrative - Tells a story or tale *Procedure - Tells how to make or do something *Response - Describes a personal reaction (i.e., review) *Recount - Explains a series of events in the order they occurred *Description - Describes a person, place or event in detail *Explanation - Explains why or how something happened *Persuasion - Presents a point of view that is used to influence *Discussion - Presents both sides of an issue You'll also find "text organizers" for writing poetry, letters, invitations, and emails. When you get to the site, read the introduction. Click on the type of text you want to write from the menu, and a new screen opens with step-by-step instructions for that type of writing assignment. It also includes examples of student writing (that cover a variety of age/grade ranges). Click on "Blank Organizer" at the bottom of the page to start your own writing project. You can also print out the text organizers to use offline. This a terrific tool to help kids/students organize the ideas and information in their writing projects. Once the information is organized it is much easier to do the actual writing assignment or self-directed writing project. Enjoy! |
