Summary:Age Range: 5-18 (Grades K-12, with Parental Supervision) The Schools of California Online Resources for Education (SCORE) developed this website that offers free "CyberGuides" that are web-based, standards-driven lessons and activities for student literature organized by grade level
Description:When you get to the site, you'll see a brief introduction that explains the CyberGuides have not been updated due to lack of funding. As a result, you may encounter lesson plans with broken links. Most of the links in the CyberGuides I tried worked fine - and for the few that were broken or redirected, it was very easy to find a substitute with a quick Internet search.

Use the menu on the home page to access the literature CyberGuides by grade level as follows:

*Grades K-3 - Access over 20 guides to books such as "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,""Charlotte's Web,""Frog and Toad Are Friends,""Little House in the Big Woods,""The Magic School Bus," and more.

*Grades 4-5 - There are just 8 lessons here for books such as "Ben and Me,""From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler,""The Island of the Blue Dolphin," etc.

Grades 6-8 - Explore over 40 CyberGuides for book titles such as, "The Bronze Bow,""The Giver,""Hatchet,""Johnny Tremain,""The Old Man and the Sea,""The Odyssey,""Walk Two Moons," etc.

Grades 9-12 - Find about 25 lessons for titles such as, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,""Animal Farm,""Brave New World,""Lord of the Flies," etc.

Each CyberGuide contains instructions, standards, and student activities. The activities suggest online research via links to resources that are provided, and then a writing project or assignment based on the research. It also includes classroom discussion ideas.

Some of the activities are engaging; some seem like classroom busywork. Fortunately, homeschoolers can pick and choose those that are of interest and leave the rest.

You'll need to get the books at your local library. In some cases, the books are available for free online from public domain content providers such as LibriVox free audiobooks.

Because some of the links are redirected or broken it is imperative that PARENTS, AS ALWAYS, PREVIEW AND SUPERVISE USE OF THIS SITE, to determine suitability of content.
Enjoy!
