Resource:Take A Sound Safari!
Provider:Wild Sanctuary: Sound Safaris
Summary:At this website you can take the whole family on a virtual field trip by sound to remote and endangered habitats worldwide and listen to the most exotic creatures sing!
Description:When you get to the site you will be prompted to "Download the new Google Earth KML Layer"; after you do so, you will see a world map. Click on any location (or use the menu to the left) and a smaller window opens with a photograph and brief description of that region of the world. Click on the triangle ("play" icon) beneath the picture and wait for a short download of a sound file - then, you can hear the sounds that correspond to that region, often including local animals and birds!

This is a great way to introduce kids to rare species while boosting their knowledge of world geography. CDs of animal sounds (and other nature sounds) are available for purchase at this site, the home of a company that specializes in sound design for public spaces including zoos, museums, and other venues.
