Learn about nanotechnology, electricity, magnetism, and more through virtual animated tours of various laboratories. |

| Description: | When you get to the site, you may need to wait a minute or two for the download. You'll see an illustration of the UVA Virtual Lab, and some info about the newest additions. You can use the menu at the top of the screen to click on "Floor Plan" or just click the "Click Here" button to start the program. The floor plan of the lab will be revealed that includes: • Office - Get info for educators and links to many other science resources on the Net. (IMO, this section isn't nearly as fascinating as the rest.) • E&M Lab - Watch animations demonstrating electric and magnetic forces. • Circuit Lab - View demonstrations of electrostatics and circuits. • Microelectronics Lab - See an oxide etch bath, discover photolithography, and watch a Doping Furnace in action. You can also take a virtual tour of a Micron Technologies Plant. • Nanoscience Lab - Use virtual Nano instruments to investigate DNA in a do-it-yourself experiment. • Semiconductor Science Lab - Learn how semiconductors and transitors work. • Scientific Instruments Lab - Use virtual microscopes and scanning machines. • Electronics Lab - See the inner workings of CDs and DVDs. REALLY IMPORTANT: Don't miss the animations on many of the pages in every virtual lab. Look for the "Play" button at the bottom of the screen that provides the text explanation. Click on it to launch the animation. It's what makes these tours so worthwhile! Enjoy! |
