Resource:The Great Backyard Birdcount Resources
Provider:LearnNC
Summary:Lesson plans, informational downloads and website links to help get you ready for The Great Backyard Bird Count!
Description:I know I am late getting this lesson site out, I completely spaced it off until I received my reminder email this week. If you have never participated in the backyard bird count, take a look at this lesson plan page; get out your binoculars, your pencil and tally sheet and start counting. We have done this for the past few years. Most years we freeze as we sit in the snow but marvel at the birds that fly to and fro.

The Great Back Yard Bird Count is celebrating its 11th year. Join thousands of schools, homeschools and individuals February 15-18, who are taking as little as 15 minutes to count the birds that visit their backyard. You can count each day and at different locations if wanted. You then submit your data through the birdsource.org website. Simple as that.

Learn NC offers invaluable information for helping the novice or well-seasoned bird watcher obtain the goal for the GBBC. As this is a site for teacher helps you will need to visit the actual GBBC website** to actually participate in the count.

With links to a printable tally sheet, The Mississippi Chapter Audubon Society, and numerous informational websites and lesson plans, you will have many options at your fingertips for making this experience most educational. The sites offer not only science but math and language arts at different grade levels. You have at your fingertips the materials to teach bird anatomy, habitats and rituals.

Take some time to look at this site, research the birds in your area and prepare for the count. You and your homeschoolers will have a great time enjoying nature and collecting valuable information for The Great Backyard Bird Count! Have fun!
