Resource:The Moon Lesson Plan
Provider:Science for Ohio
Summary:A three part lesson plan showing the relationship of the Moon, Sun and Earth using music, motion and hands on techniques.
Description:We really get into the moon around here. We have been known to get up at 3 AM, lay in our yard and watch a lunar eclipse. Yes, we love the Moon, which is why I really love this lesson. It uses music and movement, observation and hands on techniques to teach. Use the information in this lesson to learn a bit about the moon, then head outside with a blanket and a thermos of hot cocoa and experience the lunar eclipse on February 21, 2008!

This is a three-part lesson plan. Part one will be observing the moon and recording the data on an observation sheet that is included. Part two will bring demonstration of how the moon rotates using music and movement. During part three construction of a Moon Model will take place. Of course, you can switch it around anyway you like. During this series of lessons your kids will learn how long a lunar cycle is, what the different phases of the moon are and the difference between a lunar and solar eclipse.

Each section is teacher friendly and very thorough. It has step-by-step instructions for each detail of the lesson. There are links to further expand the teachings and discussions for you to bring up with your kids with answers to help explain. It didn't leave me guessing what now, and I like that.

In addition, there are printable resources available and links to short video clips, book recommendations and website recommendations. The resources are complete and all links work. The only thing I don't see on the site is the "Moondance" song. I am not sure if you just pick a song or if there is a song entitled "Moondance", that will take some investigating. Some of the activities do require more than one person so get ready to jump in and join the fun!
