| A six lab lesson plan making and baking Valentine goodies to give to someone special. |
This lesson plan is meant for an actual home economics class in a school setting. It is broken into 6 different lab groups and the end result is for the goodies to be given as Valentine's Day gifts to each other. This would be excellent for a co-op, for a multi family get-together as well as the individual family.
I found this lesson to be very interesting. There are six labs with each one making a different type of valentine treat. The labs include brownie hearts, sugar cookies, lollipops, fudge, sandwich cookies and a few others. There are links for each recipe included in the lab. The link for the sandwich creme cookies is not working. Doing a simple search on the Internet produced an abundance of recipes.
According to the instructions, these labs are to take two days. The first day basically consists of mixing and baking. The second day is the decorating and fancy work. There are step-by-step instructions for accomplishing the tasks, but learning to read and navigate a recipe and creativity in decorating are also accomplished. Of course working together is also a bonus!
This is certainly an entertaining and yummy way to incorporate chemistry, life skills, math and giving while celebrating the holiday. Have fun!
