| Over 50 web links to help you make a Groundhog Day lesson plan! |
Groundhog Day Links is a website that offers numerous links to aid in your Groundhog Day celebrations. With over 50 web links you are sure to find what you need to make the Groundhog Day lesson plan you want.
The page begins with general links. These range from pages that lead to more links to pages on how groundhogs affect your garden. The link to Stormfax Weather Almanac is my favorite. It has the history of Candlemas Day and folklore from Germany and Scotland as well as old English and American. All links but Kids Party Fun work in this section.
Lesson Plans and Activities: The levels for these range from preschool through elementary. There are songs and quizzes about groundhogs, coloring pages, craft projects and online polls. And of course, units and lesson plans ALL about groundhogs. The links currently work though Great Groundhogs has a limit to the number of people who can view each hour.
Poem and Song: All kinds of neat items located here. Make sure to check out the first link to find the lyrics for Sittin at Gobblers Knob. Its a hoot! And dont forget to check out the second site to find so many groundhog songs you wont know what to do with them. All are fun and working!
Arts and Crafts: Make a sleeping groundhog from an egg carton or make a groundhog mask. Most of these activities are geared toward 2nd grade and under. All these links work too.
Coloring Pages and Activities will give your homeschoolers something to do with their hands during read alouds. From matching animals to their shadows to cute groundhogs to color, with these 5 working links you are sure to find something that interests them.
Fun Stuff: Send an ecard or play a game of groundhog concentration. Its possible with the 5 sites in this section. Make sure to look at Starfalls Groundhog Day online book for beginning readers.
The one website for clipart isnt all that fantastic. It is the same groundhog 5 times with different little captions.
The links in Meet the Groundhogs will lead you to the sites of all the different weather-reporting rodents. From Punxsutawney Phil to Birmingham Bill, you and your homeschooler will have a ball learning about the histories of the different groundhogs. Make sure to check out the groundhogs of Alaska. They are immigrants you know. ;-)
I had a ton of fun exploring this site and I hope you do too. Happy Groundhog Day!
