Resource:Innovative Standards-Based Math Activities
Provider:MATHWIRE.COM
Summary:This website was designed by a math consultant and coach to provide FREE activities and worksheets for teachers to use in their classrooms
Description:Many of these classroom-tested activities can be easily modified for use in a homeschool environment.

While there are activities for a wide variety of ages and abilities, there is focus on math for the elementary, middle, and early high school years. You'll find a wide range of innovative suggestions and ideas for teaching various math strands.

For example, when you get to the website you'll see the featured topic - Math Poetry! That's right, April is National Poetry Month and you can use the activities to engage your children in writing poetry about mathematical concepts and terms. Or write poems that are structured on mathematical sequences. Click on any of the suggested lessons and a new page opens with the instructions and free downloadable worksheets, as well as links to other resources to enhance the learning.

You say poetry is not your thing? Then try the Earth Day Math Activities with online math games, suggestions for outdoor math activities, and Earth Day math-literature connections.

To really explore the depth and scope of this site, click on the "A-Z List" on the menu bar at the top of the screen. There you an do an alphabetical search for math topics. You'll find ingenious lesson ideas for every math strand from addition through algebra, as well as seasonal and holiday-themed activities - and even math lessons and resources based on topics such as bats, cereal toys, dominoes, insects and spiders, music, money, penguins, quilts, snowflakes, weather and much more.

There is a wide range of math-literature connections that I think you'll find very interesting too.

You can sign up to receive free updates whenever new content is loaded to the site, so you'll have an on-going supply of fun math activities to do at home.
