| Have fun on Presidents' Day and let your child become the president! |
Learn the Presidential duties, where the President lives and the important work that 5 of the past Presidents have done. In this short lesson plan, your homeschooler will read about Presidents Lincoln, Wilson, Kennedy, Nixon and Jefferson. After learning of the life changing decisions these presidents made to better America, your child will get to act as president!
The first of two activities following the reading will give your kiddos the job of writing a law to help others and signing it. They will have to keep in mind the presidentÂ’s job is to help as many people as possible with one law. The second of the activities is to design their own oval office. Encourage descriptive and imaginative writing. To take it one step further, have them draw their office showing the detail from their writing. (The artist in my family loved it!) A quiz is available if you would like to test their comprehension of the readings.
Though this lesson plan is geared for K-3rd graders, I think this is a great lesson for the self-led child up to the 5th grade. It is short, to the point, creative and will have them dreaming big for themselves and America.
