Several Co-op members contacted us with this gold mine for high school and college students. HippoCampus is a project of the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education (MITE).
As mentioned in their message board, "...homeschoolers should realize that the content presented is not a complete course. The content is intended to have an instructor to provide supplemental assignments and instruction. Since there is no teacher available through HippoCampus, the parent must take the role of instructor." Parents can sign up for a free account, and customize their account to make it better suited to meet their needs. Once you have an account, you can create announcements, hide unwanted subjects and courses, remove unused textbooks, and bookmark specific multimedia topics.
Here is a list of subjects available which you will see on the left side of the homepage:
Algebra
American Government
Biology
Calculus
Calculus (Spanish)
Environmental Science
Physics
Psychology
Religion
US History
You can click on each subject to view the courses available. For example, the subject Algebra have these courses available:
Algebra IA
Algebra IB
Elementary Algebra
What is also neat is that when you click on a course and/or subject, you will see a list of topics and textbooks used for that subject and/or course. Hippo Campus correlates their contents to a variety of widely used textbooks so that you may choose the books you wish. You do not need to buy all the books mentioned.
AND WHAT IS EVEN BETTER... each topic shows a multimedia clip explaining the topic engaging the students attention!
