Sponsored by the National Environmental Health Association and the American Academy of Sanitarians
THE NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION AND THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF SANITARIANS
The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) and the American Academy of Sanitarians (AAS) have established education in environmental health as one of their principle goals. Structured education at the undergraduate and graduate levels is most important to an individuals professional development for work in this field. Continuing education is a vital component in an environmental health professionals career.
With this ongoing goal in mind, the NEHA Board of Directors established a NEHA scholarship fund in 1984 with a gift of $1000 from Dr. A. Harry Bliss, a Past-President of NEHA. In 1989 the AAS, so strongly believing in scholarship programs, united their efforts with NEHA by agreeing to award a scholarship to an additional candidate ranked by the appointed Scholarship Committee. 1990 was the first year in which a scholarship became available for post graduate studies at a recognized university. Further, in 1996, NEHA and AAS decided jointly to fund all undergraduate and graduate scholarships. Additional funds are continually obtained from donations, proceeds from Association fund-raisers and NEHA/AAS budge commitments. It is important that the scholarship fund continue to grow so that increased and multiple scholarship awards can be offered in the future.
