Description:The City of Lansing, Michigan, H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program is a crime prevention and education initiative in cooperation with the Lansing Police Department, Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, Lansing School District, and City of Lansing in cooperation with local businesses and private citizens. The H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program offers Lansing School District youth an opportunity for a college education and a brighter future. Students are initiated into the program as sixth graders. Students promise to finish high school in exchange for two free years of tuition at Lansing Community College. The students are chosen by their school, based on their ability to utilize the program.

FREE COLLEGE

Students who receive a H.O.P.E. Scholarship are eligible for two free years of Lansing Community College tuition (MIchigan). The H.O.P.E. Scholarship also provides free textbooks. For additional information, such as requirements and responsibilities, see FAQs on the home page of the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program web site. Lansing Community College is a great place to receive your college education for a variety of reasons. With classes much smaller than the average four year institution, students receive individual time with instructors who are capable of leading classes for universities all over the World. Classes are available at night, during the weekends, over the Internet, or even at Distance Learning Centers closer to home to accommodate even the busiest of students attending LCC. For more information on the opportunities available at LCC, feel free to check out their website at www.lcc.edu.

Each year the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program will accept 500 new students into the program.

Scholarship positions are allocated to Lansing schools on the basis of a composition ratio.

For example, a school that enrolls 30% of the City’s sixth grade population will receive 30% of the scholarship program positions.

Therefore, a school with a 30% ratio in a program of 500 will have a total of 150 scholarships to offer.
