Contest / ScholarshipSave the Children: Art Contest
Type:Art
Description:Each year, Save the Children gives out dozens of $500 US Savings Bonds. Children can enter as individuals or as classes, groups, or clubs.
There are two contests --- one with the deadline of April 15th, and the other with the deadline of October 15th.
How can your artwork make a difference in the life of a disadvantaged child? It can make a difference when it is selected as a winner in the Save the Children® Art Contest.

Each year dozens of designs created by children are selected as winners from thousands of entries in this nationwide contest managed by Save the Children. Winners receive a $500.00 United States Savings Bond and the chance to have their designs featured on a wide range of licensed merchandise, such as ties, scarves, jewelry and home furnishings and accessories**. The child’s first name, age and original title of the design is also printed on the merchandise. These items can be found in fine stores across America, including Macy’s and Lord & Taylor.

“Just think about all the children you can help by just letting your pen go wild!” says Christopher, age 8, and a contest winner.

** Note: Winning artwork is not guaranteed to appear on Save the Children’s licensed products. No additional royalties or fees will be paid if used on Save the Children licensed merchandise.

Save the Children has held this art contest for many years and each year it grows along with our licensing program. New winners will be selected this year and their artwork will become part of the Save the Children Art Library.

“You don’t have to be the best artist in your school to have your design selected,” says Kymm Carlson Senior Manager of Corporate Partnerships at Save the Children. “Winners are chosen based on a number of criteria, and superior drawing skills is not necessarily one of them.” She continues, “A bright, colorful design that brings a smile to people’s faces is what we look for, as well as designs with specific themes, such as sports, family, animals or hobbies.”

Below are a few suggestions for themes to get your creative juices flowing. Let your imagination run wild!

Suggested Themes: Good Deeds/Helping Others, Families, Children of the World, Love, Christmas/Winter Themes, My Favorite Toy (i.e. stuffed animals, blocks, cars, dolls, etc.), Sports, Transportation (trucks, boats, planes), Friendly Dinosaurs, Aliens, Solar System, Nautical Themes, Fishing, Insects, Safari (baby animals), Music, Dance, Flowers, Bows & Ribbons, Hearts, Babies, Bedtime.

Note: Participants may not draw any artwork that is already owned and copyrighted by another company. We are not allowed to use such artwork as Mickey Mouse, Pokemon, The Rugrats, The NBA, McDonald's, etc.
