Description:United Suffolk Sheep Association Scholarships are to be awarded to students involved with Suffolk sheep and the United Suffolk Sheep Association (individual or family member), and also be a graduating high school senior accepted to an accredited program or a student already currently enrolled in one.
The United Junior Suffolk Sheep Association is an association of young Suffolk sheep breeders who have joined together to foster and promote an interest in raising Suffolk sheep. Anyone under the age of 22 is encouraged to join. Membership benefits include the ability to register Suffolk sheep in the United Suffolk Sheep Association at USSA member rates; subscription to the Suffolk News magazine; and eligibility to enter the National Junior Suffolk Show.
The National Junior Suffolk Show is the finale of the annual events sponsored by the UJSSA. This is the only national junior livestock show in the country that is produced and staffed by the junior directors and members. The show is financed entirely by entry fees, junior auctions and fundraising efforts of the junior members. All donations benefit the juniors.
The Junior Coordinator is the adult representative of the UJSSA. The Coordinator receives a stipend from the USSA to help with travel expenses.
The UJSSA is governed by a Board of Directors selected by a USSA Selection Committee. Terms of office are for one year.

Youth Scholarship

The National Suffolk Foundation, an arm of the USSA, awards two annual $1000 scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded to worthy applicants at the North American International Livestock Show in Louisville. Scholarships will be awarded entirely on merit.

1. Graduating high school senior who has been accepted to an accredited college or university or a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.

2. Must currently be involved with Suffolk sheep.

3. Must be a regular member of or part of a family membership in the United Suffolk Sheep Association.

4. Must have and maintain 3.0 grade point average.

5.Must provide
: a. A completed application form

b. Two letters of recommendation from teachers/professors, counselors or community leaders.

c. A current transcript.

Applications must be requested from the USSA office on or before October 1 and completed applications must be received by the office no later than October 13.

The Scholarship Committee will select up to ten finalists. Finalists will be interviewed by the USSA Board of Directors at the NAILE in Louisville, Kentucky. Winners will be announced during the Suffolk Show.

Funds will be paid directly to the winner's college or university.

The Board strongly encourages all eligible Suffolk breeders to join this competition.
