Type:Art
Description:As part of Wyoming’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree 2010 project, the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Bobbi Barrasso, and the Wyoming Arts Council is sponsoring a statewide artists’ competition to select an official painting of a Wyoming Christmas Tree for the national Capitol Christmas Tree Project. The winning art piece will be presented to the Chief of the Forest Service in December 2010.

It should come as no surprise to most Wyoming citizens at this point to hear that Wyoming has been asked to provide a 65+ foot tall Christmas tree that will grace the West Lawn of the nation’s Capitol in Washington D.C. this December. However, this latest aspect of the project – to generate an official painting – is yet another example of the many ways that artists throughout Wyoming are invited to participate in the project itself.

Traditionally, the painting of the tree is presented to the Chief of the Forest Service. The Wyoming painting will hang in the Chief’s office for the full year following this Christmas then will join the past years’ paintings in "The Tree Gallery" when the 2011 painting arrives.

United States Senator John Barrasso’s wife, Bobbi Brown Barrasso, is sponsoring this year’s Capitol Christmas Tree art contest. Her challenge to Wyoming artists: Use your artistic talents and imagination to create your vision of a 65-foot Wyoming tree destined for the nation’s Capitol.

Consider the project theme, "Wyoming- Forever West" as you develop your piece, and adhere to the following criteria:

- Any medium may be used: including but not limited to: acrylics, oil, watercolor, textile, metals, photography, stained glass, etc.
- Finished product should be 25-35 inches high & 20-30 inches wide
- Finished piece may be framed or unframed, but must be designed to hang on a wall.
- A high resolution photo of the finished piece submitted on or before the deadline of September 2, 2010
