The Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award is an AWIS Educational Foundation program for college sophomores and juniors studying physics, the amount of $500 or $1,000 is given annually to an exceptionally well-rounded student who excels in her studies as well as outdoor activities, service, sports, music, or other non-academic pursuits or who has overcome significant obstacles.
Who may apply?
Female students in the sophomore or junior year of college who are majoring in physics, including space physics and geophysics, or geoscience may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who attend a college or university in the United States.
Evaluation Criteria
Reviewers consider academic achievement as well as commitment and accomplishments in non-academic pursuits or success in overcoming significant barriers.
How may the award be used?
The award may be used for any aspect of education, including tuition, books, housing, or travel, for example.
Application Deadline and Forms: The Lorentzen award application forms may be obtained via the links below once the new ones are up on the site. The application includes a summary form, a resume form, an essay describing (1) your academic interests and goals and (2) your non-academic activities and/or significant barriers you have had to overcome-and how you did so, three reference letters, and college transcripts. |
