Located on US 41 in Baraga, Michigan, on the shores of L'Anse Bay (Keweenaw Bay). The museum collects, displays and preserves the rich history of Baraga County's past. The Museum is barrier free and provides a park area for persons to enjoy a picnic or just sit and enjoy the bay. The setting here on the bay has rich historic significance to the Baraga County Historical Society. As you look out over the bay, you can see the historic Red Rocks and the Lac View Desert Trail. Looking north, you can see Sandpoint where ancient artifacts have been carbon dated to be more than a 1000 years old.

Buchanan Art Center --

The Buchanan Art Center provides 3 exhibit galleries for local artists, art classes for all ages, a small library, and a gift shop that supports local artists and the work of art center. Gallery exhibits change about every 1-2 months with each new exhibit having an opening where the community can meet the artist. Periodically, there are free musical concerts in the main gallery. The art center tries to have at least one juried art exhibit per year which involves students from the community. Homeschoolers are encouraged to set up art classes at the center--a minimum of five students are needed, and any class that the center offers can be scheduled for homeschoolers.

Castle Museum of Saginaw County History --

Civilian Conservation Corps Museum -- Free!

In an effort to "put Americans back to work" during the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrolled more than 100,000 young Michigan men to perform a variety of conservation and reforestation projects. Between 1933 and 1942, the Michigan CCC planted 484 million trees, spent 140,000 days fighting forest fires and constructed 7,000 miles of truck trails, 504 bridges and 222 buildings. Their accomplishments also revitalized the Michigan state park system, helping to establish Isle Royale National Park and improve campgrounds in Michigan's national forests.

Detroit Zoological Park --

The Detroit Zoo is a natural habitat for more than 3,000 animals and 700 varieties of trees, shrubbery and flowering plants. Of the 340 species at the Zoo, 64 are officially listed as endangered or threatened and two are extinct in the wild. The Honolulu House Museum --

This unique structure was built in 1860 as a private residence for Judge Abner Pratt upon his return from the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands where he served as U.S. Consul. The house is said to resemble the Executive Mansion he occupied while serving in Honolulu from 1857 to 1859. The Honolulu House is now the home of the Marshall Historical Society. The wall and ceiling paintings, carpets and furniture have all been carefully researched to recreate its 1880's splendor. Exterior repair and replacement of moldings, railings, spindles, and stairs is continually being done to restore and preserve the structure. It is maintained by the society as a historical museum.

When retired from active service in 1970, she was the last lightship on the Great Lakes. Acquired by the City of Port Huron by mandate of area residents, the ship was enshrined at Pine Grove Park in 1972 as a tribute to her vigilance and in fond memory of a by-gone era. In 1989 the HURON Lightship was designated a National Historic Landmark. She is the only lightship on the Great Lakes to be so honored.

The Lionel Tour is free and lasts about 45 minutes. You will see a 14x40-foot operating layout with ten trains running simultaneously and accessories that visitors can operate by pushbutton. Loren Andrus Octagon House --

Love Creek winds its way through this rolling 150-acre natural area outside of Berrien Springs, Michigan. Six miles of hiking trails provide access to a variety of habitats, including a mature Beech-Maple forest with spectacular spring wildflowers. Love Creek offers outstanding cross-country skiing opportunities with groomed and lighted trails and ski rentals available. The new Fields & Forests Bike Trail also provides cyclists with access to a 4.5 mile beginning to intermediate level mountain bike trail from spring through fall. The Nature Center houses an Interpretative Center with live animal displays of fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects that are native to Berrien County, MI. Large viewing windows in the Interpretative Center and in the classroom allow students to study birds and small mammals visiting the numerous feeders outdoors. Naturalists are available to answer questions and teach classes.

Built in a late 1800's Victorian duplex, one-half is a small local history museum that begins with information on specific Native Americans who lived here before settlers moved in. Goes to early settlers, industries (including how clams in the river were used to make buttons), and the history of the Lowell Showboat, which many famous entertainers performed upon. The kids can also try their hand at a giant showboat steering wheel. The 2nd half is an exact reproduction of a Victorian sitting room and dining room (where Victorian events are held).

This 1853 Greek revival structure which houses the Milford Historical Society Museum was built by local cabinet maker John Wood. The upper floor of the museum is furnished as a home of the late Victorian era might have been. Many of the furnishings are items that were manufactured in Milford.The formal parlor and dining room depict the more gracious aspects of life. The kitchen, with its period gadgets, and the bedroom, with its rope bed, straw tick, and thunder-mug remind visitors of the more primitive conditions of the era. A toy room delights children of all ages. The latchstring is always out at this depiction of the Job G. Bigelow cabin built in the south end of Milford Township in 1833.

We offer two options for touring the Quincy Mine Site. On both our Surface Tour and our Full Tour you will tour the Museum, the inside of the No. 2 Shaft House, the Nordberg Steam Hoist, and ride the cog rail tram car down to the mine entrance. On our full tour you will get off the tram car and ride by tractor-pulled wagon into the mine, seven levels underground. On the Surface Tour you will not go underground. Just stay on the tram car and ride back up the hill. You should allow about an hour for the surface tour and an hour and a half to two hours for the full tour.

Imagine seeing real germs grow. And crawling through a giant intestinal tract. And learning about body systems while playing a TV-style game show. These are the tools that inspire young minds to learn about health. About wellness. About making wise lifestyle choices. These are the tools of the Saint Joseph Mercy Health Exploration Station, Michigan's first interactive health education center - one of only about 30 in the entire country. Your group will have time to explore the Exhibit Gallery -- a giant walk-through (not to mention crawl and slide through!) of the human body filled with exhibits to engage the senses of touch, sound and sight. Kids - and kids at heart - will enjoy leaping, pulling and stretching in the fitness area, hearing the rhythm of their own heartbeat and testing their nutrition savvy using a touch screen. Equally engaging will be the health presentation you select (see program descriptions). The age-appropriate programs are designed to complement - not replace - classroom instruction. Using a wide variety of tools and techniques, instructors will involve students, get their bodies and minds moving, play games with them and, ultimately, increase their knowledge and awareness of health in a fun and memorable way. Homeschool Groups: Reservations, choice of 22 subjects that range from preschool through 12th grade along with the tour, and available dates can be found on the website. The program lasts 75 minutes. The cost is $4/student with a minimum charge of $72.00. Not part of a group, the facility is open to individuals and families the 4th Thursday of every month. You can expect to spend 40 to 60 minutes for the tour. Hours: 10am - 8pm from September - May at no charge and 10am - 6pm from June - August at $1/child and $2/adult.

This nature center, located in southwestern Michigan's Berrien County, has five miles of trails meandering through its 800 acres. Our trail system includes boardwalks, observation platforms, and an easily accessible barrier-free walkway. Trails running along the Paw Paw River bluffs provide great views of the river valley below. Boardwalks and observation platforms in the flood plain give you an up-close look at wetland wildlife and habitats including wet forests, cattail marshes, shrub carrs, and even a unique alkaline wetland called a fen. The best part is that you can see it all without even getting your feet wet! The primary goal at Sarett Nature Center is to provide quality environmental education for the community. Each year over 25,000 students ranging in age from preschoolers through adults attend programs at Sarett. Local school systems make use of our ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CLASSES like pond study, maple sugaring, dune and river exploration, natural communities, and winter ecology as a part of their curriculum. We also offer classes tailored for HOMESCHOOL students. During the summer months we conduct a variety of SUMMER CLASSES FOR KIDS. Soo Locks --

The Soo Locks and Soo Locks Visitor Center combine to present a masterpiece of engineering. The elevation between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan are different enough to create dangerous rapids, where they join. Set at that location, the Locks present channels that open and close, into which a boat enters and water is allowed to fill the channel or drain from it depending on the direction the of the boat. Here you will see large ships carrying imports/exports between the US and Canada passing through. In the visitor's center you can view displays that demonstrate how the locks function, the underwater topography and the building of the Locks. A thirty minute film shares the historical perspective on the need and use of the Locks. In addition to this, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and perfect for a picnic.

Willow Run Airport was built by the Ford Motor Company in 1941 to serve as an airfield for their B-24 Bomber Plant. This was the first aircraft manufacturing plant to use Ford's automotive mass production techniques, a leading technological innovation of the time. Ford Motor Company built 8,685 B-24s from 1942 until the end of World War II. At its peak, the Willow Run plant employed over 42,000 people and produced one B-24 every 59 minutes. The last bomber to roll off the assembly line was named the "Henry Ford." When the war was over the airport became the hub for passenger flights and air freight in the Detroit Metropolitan area
