Baraboo's House of Seven Gables --

The House of Seven Gables, dating from 1860, has been recognized as an outstanding example of Gothic Revival or Carpenter Gothic architecture. It was likely inspired by the pattern books authored by Victorian architectural tastemaker, Andrew Jackson Downing. It is a true "Gingerbread House" with board and batten siding, steeply pitched gables with ornamental bargeboards and drop pendants as well as elaborate peaked finials.
Barkhousen Waterfowl Preserv --

Located along the west shore of the Bay of Green Bay, the L. H. Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve has 920 acres of forest, meadows and wetlands where prehistoric Indian tribes once hunted, fished, and camped. Today this natural area is home and refuge for a wide variety of waterfowl, wildlife, and plant species. Over 9 miles of scenic hiking trails run through the marshes and forests of the preserve. These trails are also groomed for cross country skiing in the winter months. Also located amidst the preserve is the West Shores Interpretive Center, which offers a variety of educational programs throughout the year and gives visitors the opportunity to explore nature up close with exciting hands-on exhibits.
Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary --

The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is a beautiful 700-acre urban wildlife refuge and one of the largest Wildlife Rehabilitation Sites in Wisconsin. They are also Green Bay's largest city park.
Betty Brinn Children's Museum --

Milwaukee's only place for hands-on play and interactive learning, just for kids ten and under and their parents. This museum lets kids learn the basics of commerce in an exhibit that uses play apples as raw materials for a cider factory. Other perennial favorites are the BodyWorks exhibit, with its amusingly graphic mock-ups of bodily functions; nimble kids can slide through a huge heart to see how the blood flows from one chamber to another.

Mid-Continent Railways Museum --

This is a great preserved railroad site, giving visitors a real taste of railroading of the past. Take a memorable, seven-mile, 50-minute round-trip ride on a former branch line of the Chicago & North Western Railway through the scenic Baraboo Hills. Passengers ride in restored steel coaches built in 1915. An authentically-attired conductor will call "all aboard!" before the train leaves from an historic wooden depot built in 1894. Train fare includes admission to the Coach Shed filled with restored wooden passenger, freight cars and displays from the turn of the century.
The Milton House Museum --

Pioneer, Joseph Goodrich, came to Prairie du Lac, as Milton was called then, in 1838, looking for a better place for his family. He chose land at the intersection of two Indian trails and built a small home. This crossroads became heavily traveled and seemed a good place for an inn. Not all of his guests traveled by stagecoach or train. Some were spirited into his care by the Underground Railroad. Visit here and have a look at the past.

The Mosquito Hill Nature Center is open year round with both indoor and outdoor opportunities on 430 acres adjacent to the Wolf River. The Museum of Wisconsin Art was founded in 1961 to collect the works of Milwaukee-born artist Carl von Marr (1858-1936). It currently holds the best and most comprehensive collection of his work anywhere. In 1998, after recognizing that no institution was building a comprehensive survey collection of Wisconsin art, the Early Wisconsin Art Collection was unveiled on the state’s sesquicentennial. Originally built as an Indian Fort and Trading Post, the Octagon House of Fond du Lac was later used as a safe house for runaway slaves during the Civil War. Architecturally unique, this oddity has 12 rooms, and nine passageways!
Octagon House - Watertown Historical Society --

The Octagon House is five floors of solid brick construction and was completed in 1854. The House is one of the largest single family residences of the Pre-Civil War Period in Wisconsin Built into the home were rudimentary forms of running water, central air conditioning and central heating. For 1854, these were unheard of luxuries.

Old Firehouse and Police Museum --

In 1892, the Flemish Renaissance Revival Mansion of Captain Frederick Pabst, world famous beer baron, accomplished sea captain, real estate developer, philanthropist and patron of the arts, was completed. From the day the house was inhabited, it was considered the jewel of Milwaukee's famous avenue of mansions called Grand Avenue and represented the epitome of America's Gilded Age Splendor in Milwaukee. The Pabst Mansion is a testament to Pabst's success, his love of life and his German heritage. Boasting stunning interiors, elegant original furnishings, elaborate wall coverings, the finest wood craftsmanship, intricate ironwork, brilliant stained glass, and rare art, the Mansion helped make the 1890's the "Pabst Decade" in Milwaukee.

Perrot State Park, where the Trempealeau River meets the Mississippi River, has 1,270 acres of diverse ecosystems. The river bank and surrounding wetlands provide wonderful habitat for the many migratory birds that travel through this area twice a year. Hardwood forests with mature black walnut, oak, and hickory are home to many animals, birds, and woodland wildflowers. Unique to southwestern Wisconsin and Perrot are the goat prairies perched high on the bluffs. Nature center displays, hiking trail, canoe rental and canoe trail, naturalist hikes, classes and activites Memorial Day through Labor Day, Cross Country Ski Trails, and more available.
Peshtigo Fire Musuem --

America's most disastrous fire in 1871. On the evening of October 8, 1871 the worst recorded forest fire in North American history raged through Northeastern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, destroying millions of dollars worth of property and timberland, and taking between 1,200 and 2,400 lives. This site contains many artifacts that survived the fire and the fire cemetery with a mass grave of over 300 unidentified bodies.

Tour the world's only remaining whaleback freighter! The SS Meteor is the last remaining of these innovative ships designed by Captain Alexander McDougall. Launched from Superior in 1896, she carried a variety of cargo on the Great Lakes, including iron ore, cars and oil. Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge --

This 6,226-acre Refuge lies within the Mississippi flyway, along the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin. The diverse habitats within Trempealeau Refuge support a variety of wildlife species, including the Federally-threatened bald eagle, the State-endangered osprey, and the State-threatened Blanding's turtle, all of which nest on the Refuge. Schools, universities, and other groups are welcome and encourage to visit and study nature. Diverse Refuge habitats provide a wonderful outdoor classroom for many educational group activities. Groups can schedule guided walks, specific curriculum-based programs or utilitize prairie and wetlands educational trunks by contacting the Refuge Park Ranger. The Refuge celebrates International Migratory Bird Day in May and National Wildlife Refuge Week in October - schools are encourage to participate in Refuge festivals for they can provide excellent learning opportunties. The Weis Earth Science Museum is the official State Mineralogical Museum of Wisconsin. Wilson Place Mansion --

Built in 1859 by Captain William Wilson, it was a originally a large colonial-style house with a pillared porch. Captain Wilson, was a principal in the Knapp, Stout & Co., Company, founder and first mayor of the city of Menomonie, and the area's first state senator. In 1875, he enclosed the 22-acre estate with a sandstone wall, part of which fronts the museum today.
