Located on the banks of the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana at I-65 exit 0 is the Falls of the Ohio State Park. The 386-million-year-old fossil beds are among the largest naturally exposed Devonian fossil beds in the world. The park features a spectacular interpretive center overlooking the fossil beds containing an exhibit gallery and video presentation. Fishing, hiking, fossil viewing, bird watching, and picnicking are among the most common activities. While fossil collecting is prohibited, the park staff encourages visitors to explore and discover the many different types of fossils that can be found on the ancient sea bottom. The months of August thru October provide the best accessibility to the 220 acres of fossil beds, as the river is at its lowest level during this period. Questions on general park information, directions, and fossil tour arrangements can be made by contacting the park.

The Firefighters Survive Alive! program educates children about fire and life safety. This state-of-the-art child safety education facility utilizes a two-bedroom home environment and simulated fire and smoke to give program participants the life-saving skills and experience to escape the perils of a fire. Educational programs are designed for children of all ages, but especially for those in the second grade. Children will receive training provided by a real Marion County Firefighter and will practice escaping from a simulated fire situation in the Survive Alive house with 911 telephone training to learn how to report a fire or other life-threatening emergency. Two vast and spectacular hotels, located just one mile apart in southern Indiana, epitomize the grandest of the grand hotels of the early twentieth century. Built in 1901, the French Lick Resort operated continuously until it was closed for restoration in November 2005. Reopened in November 2006, the landmark's top-to-bottom restoration uncovered 900 long hidden mini-lights in the decorative moldings of the lobby. Now sparkling once again, they highlight more tan 5000 square feet of gold leaf. The Ben Hur Museum was built by General Lew Wallace for use as his private library and a quiet place where he could write. The Civil War General wrote the world's most famous fictional work: Ben Hur. Wallace designed and built the structure in 1896. The building is a National Historic Landmark and home to Wallace's life collections. In addition to his acclaim as a celebrated author, Wallace was an artist, violinist and inventor. Four acres of lovely grounds and the building are entirely enclosed by a massive brick wall.

A streetcar accident claimed her life in Los Angeles at the height of her movie production career.

The Henry County Historical Society Museum --

The Henry County Historical Society Museum is located in the home of Civil War General William Grose. During the Civil War, he commanded the 36th Indiana Regiment and fought at such battles as Chickamauga and Atlanta. The Italianate style house was built in 1870 by the General and his wife Rebecca after he returned to New Castle to resume his law practice. He died in 1900, and the home was acquired as a museum in 1901 by the Henry County Historical Society. In 1983, the house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Henry S. Lane Antebellum Mansion is a beautiful Greek Revival home that has enjoyed a complete and careful restoration. Henry and his wife Joann built the home in 1845. Lane was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1860 but his most noteworthy accomplishment may be his direct involvement with securing the nomination of Abraham Lincoln for the presidency. Lane later served as a pallbearer at Lincoln's funeral and a lock of Lincoln's hair is on display at the mansion. Over ten rooms full of the Lanes' original furnishings and belongings make this historic home an authentic example of a pre-Civil War dwelling. National Register of Historic Places.

Richardville about 1834, probably in preparation for the treaty negotiations which were held at the Forks in that year.

The Indiana Medical History Museum is located in the Old Pathology Building on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital on the near westside of Indianapolis. The museum represents the beginning of scientific psychiatry and modern medicine while the building itself is the oldest surviving pathology facility in the nation and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum maintains a collection of scientific artifacts from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in a completely authentic setting. Constructed in 1895 and inaugurated in 1896, the nineteen-room Pathological Department Building, as it was then called, is equipped with three clinical laboratories, a photography lab, teaching amphitheatre, autopsy room, and library.

Take a step back in time on a tour through the Historical Center. You can travel into police past taking a look at various uniforms, cars and equipment used by the Indiana state police over the years. During a tour, visitors can see displays of donated and confiscated items from the John Dillinger era, as well as a moonshine still, a variety of state police vehicles, and numerous antique equipment relating to law enforcement. The Historical Center also serves as the administrative offices of the Indiana State Police Youth Services. Since 1970, the state police has sponsored camps for middle and high school students interested in law enforcement.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, located five miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis on the grounds of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is recognized as one of the most highly visible museums in the world devoted to automobiles and auto racing. The Tippecanoe County Historical Museum is housed in the English Gothic house built by Moses Fowler in 1851. Fowler, one of the area's leading merchants and cattlemen, was anxious to have a home reflecting his social status. He obtained a copy of the British book Architecture of Country Houses and proceeded to design his own house. The home was built by a local contractor using native white oak and black walnut woodwork. The ornamental work on the parlor ceilings was done by Italian artisans from New York who traveled to Lafayette via the Wabash and Erie Canal. Use as a county historical museum.

Established in 1969, the Ohio County Historical Society opened its museum in 1972. Displays focus on the 1800's and early 20th century life and events. The best known item in the collection is the racing boat, HOOSIER BOY, famous raceboat of the early 1900's. The boat holds the record between Cincinnati and Louisville, round trip, at 60 mph. It was designed, built and raced by J. W. Whitlock of Rising Sun. On October 5, 2003, the HOOSIER GIRL, the sister boat to the HOOSIER BOY, came home. The HOOSIER GIRL was built in the 1940s after the first one (built 1908) sunk in the early 1940s. She is an exact duplicate of the original boat.

In 1887 Seiberling, who had manufactured everything from twine to plate glass during his residence in Akron, established the Kokomo Strawboard Company, which employed approximately seventy-five people to take ordinary straw and produce shoe boxes. Six months later, Seiberling sold his company (at a profit) to the American Strawboard Company. Despite the sale, Seiberling remained in business in Kokomo, opening the Diamond Plate Glass Company. Although the one-time Ohio industrialist's Kokomo factories were impressive, he is best remembered for a more personal project--his family's home, which became known as the Seiberling Mansion. The structure, a mixture of Neo-Jacobean and Romanesque Revival styles built at a cost of $50,000, is today occupied by the Howard County Historical Society, which has painstakingly restored the mansion for

Wolf Park --

Tuesday through Friday, from 1 to 5 pm, Wolf Park offers guided tours of the facility. These walking tours are about a half mile round trip over gravel, and include seeing red foxes, New Guinea Singing Dogs, main pack, and "East Lake" retirement section, as well as a good view of the bison pasture. You will get to see all of the animals and get an overview of what Wolf Park does, how they treat their wolves and how wolves behave in the wild, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and take photographs (there will be a chain link fence between you and the animals). Tours are appropriate for all age levels. Howl Night: Get to see the wolves at night from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. from the bleachers in front of the animal enclosure. Discuss wolf behavior and communication, focusing on the howl, and then watch a handling demonstration, where some staff will enter the enclosure and interact with the wolves. Wolf/Bison Demonstration: On Sunday from 1 to 3 pm Wolf Park has its Wolf/Bison Demonstration, where they we release 2-4 wolves in a 17 acre pasture with the herd of healthy American bison.

Wylie House --

Built in 1835, Wylie House was the home of Indiana University's first president, Andrew Wylie, and his family. Today Wylie House is owned and operated by Indiana University as an historic house museum recreating the Wylie home of the 1840s. The house is distinctive and unusual for south-central Indiana, a blend of Federal and Georgian styles of architecture more characteristic of southwest Pennsylvania, where Wylie was born and raised. It is one of the few pre-1840 structures remaining in Bloomington and it is the only historic house museum in the county.
