The Brass Ring studio is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a Victorian carousel in Albany, Oregon's Historic District. The Dentzel family donated a 1909 mechanism that will one day power the carousel. The museum also houses part of the Dentzel family collection of Carousel animals. Carvers come from all over the world to work on the decorative pieces.

This Eastlake/Stick mansion has very beautiful woodwork, excellent room displays with costumed mannequins, and one of the coolest Victorian bathrooms.

Classic Aircraft Aviation Museum --

The museum's collections focus on the jet age through the Cold War, though not all of the planes are jet powered. Aircraft at the museum includes several other F-104s, two Douglas A-26C Tankers, a Fouga Magister, an F-86 Sabre, a BAC Jet Provost, one Hawker Hunter, a Douglas C-47, and a pair of Soviet era MiGs (17 & 21). The C-47 is a recent addition. Besides aircraft, the museum also has a small collection of ground equipment, engines, and several ejection seats.
Columbia Gorge Discovery Center - Wasco County Historical Museum --

The Discovery Center exhibits introduce visitors to the unique geology, flora, fauna, and history of the Columbia River Gorge. Visitors can tour the Ice Age exhibit, which features a life-size mammoth, and see an interpretation of the role that the Ice Age played in populating the Americas. The exhibit explains why everything reached mammoth proportions during the Ice Age, how and why people migrated during this forbidding time, and why Ice Age theories are complex and incomplete. There's also the Lewis and Clark Expedition exhibit. The Corps of Discovery carried 30 tons of supplies and equipment. This exhibit examines why they packed so much, and how difficult it was to transport it all. This is a hands-on exhibit.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a 725-acre wildlife preserve located within the city limits of Hillsboro, Oregon. The Preserve is a tranquil sanctuary for both people and animals. The quiet open waters, rolling meadows and upland ash and fir woods are homes to thousands of ducks and geese, deer, otters, beavers, herons and eagles. Song birds and small mammals, as well as salamanders and rare wetland plants, are dependent on the marshes of the Preserve. Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a natural oasis that will become more and more precious as this area's population density continues to intensify. The John Inskeep Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is an outdoor classroom that was created from an abandoned jam cannery. A mile of trails crosses the five-acre landscaped site, providing easy access to ponds, a creek, and wildlife habitat. There are a variety of programs, classes, and tours that can be scheduled for groups for a fee($75-$80). You can also plan to visit the Haggart Observatory while you are there.

The home opened as a museum in 1910, and it continues to draw thousands of visitors each year from all over the world. In 1941, the McLoughlin House was designated by Congress as a National Historic Site (the first in the West). Many weekends there are hands-on demonstrations. Mission Mill Museum interprets the history of the Thomas Kay Woolen Mill - designated an American Treasure by the National Park Service - which produced wool products from 1889 to 1962 and represents one of Oregon's earliest and strongest industries. Mission Mill also interprets the history of Jason Lee's Methodist Mission to Oregon which settled in the Willamette Valley in 1834 before the major Oregon Trail migrations. The missionaries brought formal education, industry and large scale agriculture and advocated for U.S. government in the Oregon country. Trolleys run every 6 to 10 minutes at nine different locations on the route. You can get on and off as you please and tour some of the museums on the route. Oregon Symphony/Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall --

Backstage Tours provide an opportunity for school and community groups to come inside the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, explore behind the scenes, and get a feel for what it's like to arrive at the hall as a musician. During the one-hour tour groups learn about the history of the building and the orchestra, and sit in on a working rehearsal. There is also the opportunity to spend a short time with a musician and hear a bit about how they became a professional musician with the Oregon Symphony. Oregon Symphony also offers an entertaining kids series of concerts designed for ages 5 to 10. Tickets must be purchased and prices vary.

From April through October schoolchildren engage in activities that were part of the daily life of Oregon's earliest settlers. Tours of the farm and hands-on pioneer activities are available for the whole family all summer. Visitors may tour the grounds when guides are not available by listening to audio boxes. Special group tours led by period dressed interpreters can be scheduled April through October. The farm usually hosts a homeschool day in October. The Cost is $5 per person. Call for the date.

Redmond Air Center --

Activated in 1964, the Redmond Air Center is a hub for Interagency wildland fire suppression, fire management, equipment support, and aviation activities for the Pacific Northwest Region (Oregon and Washington). The Air Center is home to the Redmond Smokejumper Base, Airtanker Base, Interagency Hotshot Crew, Pacific Northwest Interagency Training Center, Interagency Fire Cache, Regional Aviation Group, and Administrative Services Group. Group and individual tours are available by calling in advance. Individual tours on a drop-in basis may be accommodated depending on the level of fire activity at the time of request. During fire season (May-September) it is not always possible to have personnel available to conduct tours due to fire activity. The Air Center is located 2 miles east of Redmond on Highway 126.

Yaquina Head offers many outstanding possibilities. Climb to the top of a historic lighthouse and see the original Fresnel lens. Watch for birds or whales. The tidepools are open for exploration. If the weather is frightening, spend the day in the Interpretive Center where exhibits include the wheelhouse of a ship, videos and the history of Yaquina Head.
