Summary:Baby Basics
Contributor:Sandra Jacobs
Savings:Thousands
Description:According to Denise and Alan Fields'"Baby Bargains: Secrets to Saving 20% to 50% on Baby Furniture, Equipment, Clothes, Toys, Maternity Wear and Much, Much More!" the average estimated cost of baby preparation to be around $6,000 -- and that's not including hospital bills, day care or all the expenses that come later. WHEW!

With some creativity and help from family and friends you can certainly spend ALOT less. For example
:
-Friends and Family- Accept, sort, clean and pass along whatever hand me downs you can't use.

-Consignment Shops- Even toys like stuffed animals can be washed and disenfected.

-Careful what you wash - Wash only a few of your newborn items. Baby is likely to quickly outgrow them and you can take the still-packaged ones back to the store for a refund.

Downside:
Editor's Note:Thanks to co-op member Lauri for her response to this tip..."Give them to another mom-to-be (who did not attend your shower of course!) or child".
